Are Marketing and Advertising really just snake oil?

Marketing and advertising often get maligned as snake oil.

Sometimes this is completely accurate. (Like so many areas, it all depends on the practitioner and method.)

But make no mistake: marketing and advertising themselves are not snake oil. Your messaging can actually help improve life for people.

You're still skeptical. I would be too.

Let me show you how real, honest-to-goodness marketing works.

You use your precious messaging space to genuinely connect the dots for someone. You show how a real problem they face today can be genuinely resolved or mitigated by your product or service. You describe it using language your reader will get.

Ground your marketing in real-life cases, with real-life solutions, and suddenly:

  • your marketing is refreshingly less snake oil-y

  • you add real value to someone's life

  • you build brand trust and maybe even long-term loyalty. (Maybe. Loyalty is always theirs to give and yours to earn.)

It's not a mystery. When you message this way, you help make someone's life a tiny bit better, rather than trying to sell something.

When you care about improving someone's life, the selling will happen incidentally.

Thanks for joining me for this thought.

Go forth intrepid thinker,

Jacob
