Marketing is everywhere in your company.

From the consumer's perspective, marketing is constant.

You're on the Operations team and don't think you have a hand in Marketing?

You the straw that turns the drink, the oil that greases the wheels. You're the one in the trenches, in the shadows, in the background, making everything happen. You just make the company work better. You make things run more smoothly through every nook and cranny of the company. Improving processes? That's all you. Discovering opportunities for more efficiency? You've got the eye. Supporting everyone else in the company? Go on with yo’ bad self!

Sure, all that's fine and dandy, but what the heck have you got to do with Marketing?

  • Educate your people. Do you have any input on organizational processes? Is your Ops team in the know about all of the latest improvements and innovations? Could they benefit to learn more about them? One great way to do that is through the organization's internal newsletter. Chances are good Marketing has a hand in that and can help you broadcast them. Say hello to even more efficiency!

  • Make life better for everyone. Do you have any input on the organization's intranet? How files are saved, which links are prioritized, what employees really need? You're probably on it like a calico kitty on a can of spam! Your Marketing team might play a role in governing the intranet. They do at my organization. They might oversee the structure of the intranet, the way files are named and categorized, and more. Have you given input about what interface and features would work best for your employees? Your team are going to be intranet power users. Are they being left out of the conversation? Bring them in! Stake your claim!

Does your organization of a "bulletin" system, or some process for releasing important information to your staff? You might be involved in that. You know who creates informational materials for a living? You guessed it, the marketing team! Copywriting skills transfer heavily into informational, educational, expositional writing. And if they're worth their salt, they'll make the information more interesting and engaging, just because they can't bear to see data presented dryly. Give 'em a shot!

Nothing exists in a vacuum. Marketing is everywhere. Talk to your marketing team and help make life better for everyone!
