You’re in quicksand

Assume you're standing still. Which way are you moving?
If it sounds like a trick question, well okay, it kind of is. Unfortunately, the trick is on you.
Pragmatically speaking, the correct answer to that question is "backwards".
Don't believe me? Consider the fact that:
New technologies, techniques, and practices are continuously emerging in your industry, regardless of what industry you work in.
New professionals are emerging, many of whom are younger and more adaptable than you are.
And what of the ones already in your industry? Many are working right now to improve their craft and increase their ability to make change among ever-evolving circumstances.
Physically speaking: if you remain still, your body tends toward atrophy. Just by staying still, it becomes harder and harder to move in the right direction long-term.
Mentally speaking: if you remain still, your mind tends toward atrophy. Just by staying still, it becomes harder and harder to move in the right direction long-term.
You are always getting older. A painful but non-negotiable truth.
I guess what I’m saying is, Jamiroquai was onto something.
So what are you going to do about it?
