Internal Communications

As the Editor-in-Chief of the internal newsletter, I managed, wrote, and released all our monthly newsletters at the credit union.

For each newsletter, I added an editorial cover message sharing hope, love and appreciation. Here are a few examples of those cover messages to all staff. They will give you a feel for what I bring to staff communications.

Example Email to Staff no. 1: How to Save the World

"What makes credit unions so special and so relevant today is our insistence on bringing warm and human connections to the fore in financial services, traditionally a tundra of closed-door exclusivity, price over value, and numbers over nuance."

"I just wanted to give a shout out that uNews [the internal newsletter] looks better than ever. Super professional, colorful, and something I actually want to read now versus prev publishings. You have really spiced it up!"

Charlotte S, VP Member Experience

Example Email to Staff no. 2: Wabi-sabi

"Wabi-sabi says...it is our rough edges that make us unique and interesting, that give us beauty. If you appreciated and even celebrated the things that are imperfect in your life...I bet you'd see a different kind of world. One a little more kind, open and understanding."

"You have some real skill!  This is seriously a great newsletter and I love how you have changed up so many things!"

Denise S, Business Development

Example Email to Staff no. 3: Avocados over coals

"If you are at all interested in yoga or meditation... please email me or call me. I am not a certified instructor, coach, monk or sifu... I merely practice daily and am passionate about the art and science of the disciplines. And sharing information with others makes me happy."

More (gushing) unsolicited praise from employees I've worked with

"I want you to know I just love this guy (Jacob) and the approach he’s taking. I love the close, relational approach that he makes work so very well. It must be the New York in him? I don’t know, but I love it. It looks like you’ve made one great hire and he just totally hits it out of the ballpark for me regarding [the internal newsletter] uNews and all."

Janet T, Organizational Development
(in an email to my manager, later shared with me)

"I just wanted to tell you great job on reinvigorating this newsletter! I have always wanted us to have something that helped personalize other employees, to help draw that connection that can only come from knowing something personal about another person (like how cute their dog is). And you’re doing it. Excellent work!"

Andrew C, Business Services

"I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy uNews since you have taken the helm. I love the new path it has taken. Keep it up! You are doing a great job!
